I want to record an incident that happened this morning. Ruth and I woke up to heavy rain and Ruth went outside with the dog and then realised her water butt was overflowing. I was in the kitchen and she was waving frantically for me to switch on the pump. I tried to switch the pump on, which didn't work, so she then spent the next fifteen minutes trying to empty the water out in her pyjamas manually. I couldn't really understand because it's now September and it's raining anyway so it's not that important that the grass and the garden get watered and yet she felt it was.

When she came back in I couldn't understand why she'd stood out in the rain in pyjamas, getting soaking wet, for something that I thought wasn't that important. I wasn't able to stop saying anything.
